  1. Number of people in your wedding party: bridesmaids, moms, personal attendants, aunts, flower girls-you name it! Anyone wanting to have hair or makeup services for your wedding day

  2. How early you can start: This may be determined by where you are getting ready. Venues often have times that you can get in, and any earlier usually involves a fee. If you’re getting ready at a home or hotel, how early do you want to start?

  3. Photography: Your photographer may be able to give you an exact time on when they want you to be done with hair and makeup, but also consider if you want getting ready photos of your hair and makeup being done. Do you want pajama/matching outfit photos before putting on your dress? If so, do you want everyone done with hair and makeup by then? Do you want pictures of your mom or someone special zipping you into your dress? If so, they should have their hair and makeup done before those photos. Are you doing a first look? Your bridal party may have more time to get ready while you’re doing those. Your photographer is the biggest help with these questions.

  4. Rehearsal: Are you doing a rehearsal the day before the wedding, or the morning of? Some venues require you to do a walk through rehearsal in the morning and that often falls right into the hair and makeup timeline. Make sure you know this before creating your hair and makeup timeline.

  5. Travel: Do you need to travel from where you are getting ready to your venue? Are you taking pictures at a location you need to drive to? If so, are you getting dressed there? Make sure you allow time to travel and time to get dressed if needed.

  6. Lunch: Girl’s gotta eat! Make sure you schedule time for lunch. Even if you’re eating it as people are getting ready, know who’s picking it up and when it’s arriving so it’s not an added stress.

  7. Veil: If you’re wearing a veil, do you want your hairstylist to put it in for you? If so, will that be after your dress is on? Do you want to wait until right before the ceremony? If so, make sure there’s time for your hairstylist to show someone how to put it in correctly.

  8. Music: Okay, okay, this one’s not really part of the timeline itself. BUT it does set a nice vibe for your wedding day morning. If you can get a close friend to create a curated playlist for you in advance, I promise it will bring you so much joy!

  9. Additional Costs: Bridal hair and makeup companies often have additional costs for early starts, additional artists, or changing locations. Be sure to ask in advance what these will be depending on the scheduling choices you make. For example, if you don’t want to start at 7am, you may need to pay for an additional artist to come in order to start later.

  10. Vibes: What kind of wedding day morning do you want? Do you function best when you can sleep in, drink some coffee, and enjoy slow time with your friends? Maybe making sure certain people are with you is your top priority. If you want to soak in the morning and relax, you may want to start later and not have a super tight schedule. If rushing makes you anxious, make sure there’s buffer time in your morning. Ultimately your wedding day morning is up to you. YOU get to pick how you want it to feel, so make sure you consider what things will bring you joy to get your wedding day off to a fantastic start!
