All Down Bridal Hairstyles: Tips For Long Lasting Curls

Romantic, all-down styles are super popular this wedding season! You see them everywhere across bridal inspo pages. Whether you are dreaming of classic Hollywood glam waves or a breezy boho look, you want your bridal hair to last all day and night. Keeping those curls intact can definitely be a challenge, but I'm here to share my favorite tips to make it happen!

First things first: if your hair has never held a curl well, it helps to keep open expectations, as an all-down style might not be the best fit. I'm not saying it's impossible, but having a backup plan in mind never hurts! Now that that's out of the way, here are 3 reliable ways to get your curls to last all day:

  1. Set your curls first. Adjust your timeline so you go first in the prep schedule. Once your hair is set in rollers or pins, you can sit for makeup or relax while your bridal party gets styled. After at least an hour—ideally 2 to 3—your hairstylist will remove the set and finalize your style.

  2. Use clip-in extensions. Even if you don't need extra length or volume, extensions provide essential structure and support. Clip-ins hold curl amazingly well, giving your natural hair something solid to rest on so it keeps its shape.

  3. Minimize the gap before your first look. Try to line up your schedule so styling wraps up within an hour of your first look to keep everything fresh. You can also hire your stylist to stay for touch-ups before the ceremony, or have them return later to switch your look to an updo for the reception.

Wearing your hair all down is gorgeous, but it takes a bit of extra care to maintain. Here are a few quick rules of thumb:

• Avoid touching your hair once it's styled.

• Wash and blow-dry with a setting product, like a volumizing mousse, the morning of the wedding.

• Embrace the product! It might feel a bit firm to the touch, but it will still look soft and touchable in photos.

• Do a trial run in the morning during your preview session so you can see how the curls hold up throughout an entire day.

Finally, always have a backup plan. If you wake up on your wedding day to high humidity, rain, wind, or snow, consider switching to a half-up look. Unless you plan to stay indoors 100% of the time, a subtle tweak can save your hair from the elements!
